Day 26: Through The Spirit

“For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.”

Galatians 5:5

It's interesting that Paul tells us that we wait in faith only through the Spirit. We trust in the promise of God that we are to be made righteous. Even though we deserve no such thing, we still somehow have a faith that our Lord grants us this gift.

Once, back in secondary school, instead of cracking on with our assigned physics homework, a Muslim friend and I found it far more interesting to talk about faith. At one point he retorted "Here's the problem with Christianity. Why would God decide to sacrifice his son?" dismissively adding, "And don't just say it's because he loved us." To him, the idea of a supreme deity paying such a huge price to save mere human beings was simply unimaginable. It was such a large and outlandish gift that he was convinced it was too good to be true. It simply *had* be a fiction.

Maybe that's why Paul sees fit to remind us that we await Christ through a Spirit-granted faith. We know we don't deserve the gift we receive with Jesus' return. Yet, as the Spirit manifests in us, we get a taste of what is to come. And our faith is refreshed.
