Day 24: You Will Have Peace
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
‘You will have peace!” Jesus says. But on what basis does He make such a promise? Fundamentally, peace does not come from His words alone; true and lasting peace is only found ‘in Him’. Through the Cross, God has made peace with us by dealing with the hostility that kept us alienated from Him. We who were far away, have been brought near and are now hidden with Christ in God!
We are at peace with God and so now we enjoy the peace of God- peace that drives out fear, peace that guards our hearts against anxiety, peace that keeps us steadfast in the face of trials and struggles. And in this world, Jesus says, we will have trouble. But His peace reigning in our hearts will prevail because He has conquered the world and the prince of this world has been overthrown! Jesus’ death and resurrection has rendered all that the world and the Enemy can throw at us ultimately powerless!
So as we journey through Lent, whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, let us take heart and be encouraged as we remember the peace Jesus has won for us at the Cross.
