Day 20: Wings Like Eagles
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
The Institute for Social Research published a study in 2017 that showed 62% of people used their mobiles to pass the time when waiting e.g. in a coffee shop or at a bus stop. About half were already using their phones when they arrived and of the rest, around half initiated use within 10 seconds! We don’t like waiting, but this verse promises those who wait on the Lord will gain new strength.
How? Waiting on God isn’t finding something else to do until the wait is over, but actively looking out for Him, like a really good waiter in a restaurant, paying attention at all times. What are you waiting on God for this Lent? Listen! Maybe He has a word of direction for you today or a promise you can hold on to? Perhaps as you wait, he’ll nudge you to call a friend who will be a significant part of the journey ahead? We don’t have to grit our teeth to get through life, as we are invited to wait on the Lord, who will renew our strength. Let’s not miss anything he has for us!
