Day 36: Not My Will

“Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Mark 14:36

One of the most profound moments in the gospel occurs when Jesus is faced with death knowing very well he is the Son of God. He can call upon the angels, ask God to take away the pain immediately. Yet he knew that to do so would not be in the will of the Father. He took the pain for a fallen world so that you would have life in abundance.

Living in the will of God is the most assuring way of life. There are times when we are faced with challenges, living in pain and suffering. This could be physical or emotional pain. We can trust God for healing. However, can we also trust him that if it is his will for us to carry the pain, God can use our pain for his glory? Imagine praying for healing for someone else when you are in the same situation. How much glory would that bring to the Father? As we are looking forward to Easter, may we trust God for his will to be done. More of him and less of us.

Even if it hurts as it did with Jesus, we will proclaim that we trust you, Lord.
