Day 7: As I Pour My Soul
“These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.”
Psalm 42:4
To me, as I read the words of the Psalmist here, it seems that they are expressing how they miss being able to worship in the temple with other believers - “how I used to go to the house of God...and praise among the festive throng.” It’s interesting how, as they’re pouring out their soul, what they seem to be missing more than anything is corporate worship.
Corporate worship is a powerful opportunity to join with fellow believers and encourage each other’s faith. The lifting of “shouts of joy and praise,’ along with those with the same faith, changes our focus away from ourselves and our circumstances and onto our ever-faithful God.
Let us be thankful for both the local, and the global church. I am so grateful to know that when I “pour out my soul,” I can join with the members of RFC, my family, in corporate worship, to choose to be joyful and give praise. As we approach Easter, a moment of celebration, let us all use our ability to encourage those around us to hunger for Him more and to be more like Him.
