Greetings, o favoured one!

“Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favoured woman! The Lord is with you!” Luke 1:28

How would you respond if an angel were to suddenly appear to you? I think I would share Mary’s feeling of being “greatly troubled!”

But Mary had nothing to be troubled by – the angel Gabriel was bringing her news that the long-awaited Messiah was to be born to her. 

As God chose Mary to fulfil this amazing role in his rescue plan, so he has chosen each of us to play our part. As Mary was favoured, so are we because of the amazing gift of Jesus and his death on the cross. As the Lord was with Mary, so is he with us everywhere we go. 

How can we respond this Christmas to this news? We can walk in the freedom that the Lord is always with us and that we each have a unique role to play in spreading this good news to those around us.
