Day 9: The Lord Is Good

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.”

Lamentations 3:25

What has made us cry recently? Jeremiah laments over the fallen city of Jerusalem and his nation suffering for their sinfulness. 600 years later, Jesus Christ weeps over the same city. His heart is broken by the same thing as His Father’s: people’s rebellion against God and its high price to be paid –death. “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves…” (Luke 23:28)

When does our lament serve us well? When we turn our tearful eyes upon Jesus!  We experience God’s goodness when we seek Him and put our hope in Him; when we stop trying to help ourselves but let God take control over our sorrowful state. “We deserve to die for our crimes…Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” (Luke 23:41-42)

How can we find hope in despair? By expecting God to intervene. The final victory does not belong to death but to Jesus Christ! He is our hope in the darkest hour. “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

The darkness of “the sixth hour” eventually passes. The stone gets rolled away. The grave is empty. God comes with His salvation! “The Lord is good…”
