He will reign

“He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” Luke 1:32-33

Gabriel is referencing the promise to David though the prophet Nathan. This is the one who will reign eternally, What sort of kingdom would it be? At the time of David it could have been a political powerhouse in the middle east but what would Mary be thinking, living under the Roman occupation.

We have the benefit of knowing what Jesus’ Kingdom would be but as he reigns eternally the question for us is not what kind of king he is, but what kind of subjects we are. How well do we celebrate his rule, how consistently do we abide by his commands and how noticeably do we wear his colours. How much of our little kingdoms do we allow Him to have rule over?

He is reigning, how are we serving?
