If God did exist what would you ask?

Over 2 million people in the UK and 10 million worldwide have attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world. Alpha is open to anyone, and takes place in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day away.

What is the Alpha Course?

The Alpha course is designed primarily for people who aren't churchgoers. People attend for a variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. 'Alpha makes Christianity relevant to modern life.'

What's involved?

The course is based around small groups of about 10 people and each evening begins with coffee and cake - a chance to get to know others in the group. Each week there will be a talk looking at a different aspect of the Christian faith, followed by an open floor question and answer session leading into discussion in small groups. This is your chance to ask your questions and help each other to discover some answers. There is no question too simple or too challenging at the Alpha Course.

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone, especially:

  • Those wanting to investigate Christianity
  • Newcomers to the church
  • Those who want to brush up on the basics

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for attending the Alpha course, so just bring yourself.

when's the next course?

The Alpha Course is usually run by Reading Family Church three times a year. We will be running 1 course in the winter term. A 10 week course starting on the Thursday 29th January 2015, 8pm at 87 London Street.

I believe the Alpha course touches lives. I have seen so many people find a personal relationship with God and a quiet strength in their life after doing the course – me included – and it takes a proud man to say he never needs any help. Alpha is a non pressured and fun course, and it shows how Christianity can be relevant and empowering to our lives. Bear Grylls, TV Adventurer
What distinguishes Alpha from other initiatives is the east-going, relaxed feel of the proceedings - that, and it's astonishing success. The Times
